Subject: The Big Frame (Dragnet)
Season 3. episode 34.
Original air date: 22 April 1954.
A man is found dead in the gutter. At first it seems as a hit-run case, but Friday and Smith become suspicious when all whitnesses from the night before give exactly the same story. Usually witnesses are at variance in some respects.
Cast: Jack Webb (Sgt. Joe Friday), Ben Alexander (Officer Frank Smith), Caroline Jones (Marian Fuller), Tony Barrett (Henry John Baxter), Lawrence Ryle (Jonathan Larrimore), Jack Kruschen (Karl Jansen), Herb Vigran (Eugene Murray), Natalie Masters (Katy Stokes), Roy Whaley (William Huddy), George Fenneman (announcer Opening: uncredited) and Hal Gibney (Announcer Closing: uncredited).
From IMDB.

It is the Helms Bakery truck whistle.

In the late 50s and into the 60s, Helms used to deliver in my neighborhood in the LA area. The whistle was a call to all women in the area, that that fresh baked goods were available for sale, right outside their doors.

We children in the neighborhood to beg their mothers to buy them one of the fresh doughnuts that were known to wait patiently in long drawers at the back of the truck.

I hate to say it, but Friday's wisdom tooth was more interesting than the actual plot. A neer do well drunkard is killed by a merchant mariner and the bartender than cooks up a phony story (The "Frame") with his regulars.
